As per Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the new rules came into effect on Monday. Travellers from the United States can skip pre-arrival testing by showing their Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccination card.
For unvaccinated tourists, the rules still remain the same. They are welcome but they need to present proof they contracted the virus but recovered, or show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours. Kids under six are exempt from pre-departure testing. Travellers also need to fill out a passenger locator form prior to departure.
The country has already allowed all the bars and restaurants to operate fully. In fact, swimming pools, beaches, and theme parks are also open to the public. All the prominent museums are allowed to open on weekends with pre-booking; on weekdays, they can operate with limited capacity.
Besides Italy, several countries such as France, Greece, Croatia, Denmark, and Spain have also opened their borders for fully vaccinated US travellers.
