Sariska Tiger Reserve to get new safari zones for tourism

The famous Sariska Tiger Reserve could get more zones for tourism, according to the state forest department. Only about five percent of its area remains open for safaris as of now, and there is a lot more to explore for tourists. It has been noted that those areas that are no safari zones within the reserve, are in fact home to the big cats.
The forest department here is already working to develop more zones, as it has started work on a 17 km protection route for monitoring. According to a statement by Sariska Tiger Reserve Chief Conservator of Forests, R N Meena, “Soon, proposals to develop new routes will be tabled before the Local Advisory Committee (LAC). During a recent visit, a National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) official has also given in-principle approval to open new routes. We have developed monitoring routes before we open safari routes.”

Sariska is located in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, and is a wildlife experience that you would not want to miss out on. It was declared a tiger reserve back in 1978. The forest authorities are looking into the zones that are yet unexplored. Such as the Talvriksha range, where there are no safaris, or even monitoring zones.
Despite having 23 tigers here at the reserve, sightings are poor. The reserve is spread across an area of 1281 sq km, which is divided into six ranges. There are only three zones at present, and sometimes tigers are not spotted for as long as a whole week.
