It is imperative to mention that initially, the festival was decided to be celebrated on January7 and 8, but the state government has changed the date (tentatively) to January 27-29. So plan accordingly.
Every year the festival is celebrated with great pomp and show, and this coming January, you can expect the same, if not more. As of now, the festival authorities have zeroed in on three locations for the Hampi Utsav – Gayatri Peetha, Virupaksheshwara Temple and Eduru Basavanna Temple.
Starting with the obvious – the location of the festival. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi is the festival’s backdrop. For the Hampi Utsav, several important monuments will be lit up, there will be an elephant procession, a kite festival, and most importantly, performances by some of the most prominent and celebrated traditional singers and dancers. The festival is a photographer’s delight!
