Goa extends COVID lockdown till August 9

Bad news for those planning a trip to Goa lovers. The Goa government has announced extension of the ongoing COVID-19 curfew till August 9 due to the rise in the positive cases in the country. Earlier, the government had said that the lockdown will end on August 2.
But, on Sunday, the administration issued a fresh extension order. The order said that all the Coronavirus-related restrictions will continue in the state till further notice. It also said that no fresh relaxation has been granted in the state.

Just a few days back, Goa announced reopening its hotels after the state recorded a dip in the number of COVID cases. The positivity rate in the state dipped below five percent, but the lack of tourists and occupancy rate in the hotel was low even after the government allowed entry to fully vaccinated business travellers without any negative report.
TTAG president Nilesh Shah expressed, “Unless a positive message goes around, we will not see a steady flow of tourists. We may see some footfalls in August as there are a few public holidays, but there won’t be a heavy rush”.

But, after the beach state reported 59 fresh positive cases and one death, the state decided to extend the lockdown.
