The 25th Hornbill Festival in Nagaland kickstarts, and this year, it coincided with the state's 62nd Statehood Day. This festival showcases traditional Naga culture with performances, indigenous games, local cuisine, and international participation. The grand opening ceremony
The opening ceremony was a dazzling affair, blending traditional Naga cultural performances with modern music. A musical event by celebrated composer AR Rahman was one of the highlights of the day, who captivated the audience with his soulful music. Envoys from various countries and delegates from partner states Sikkim and Telangana also graced the occasion.
Showcasing cultural diversity
The festival brings together Nagaland’s 17 major tribes, and each showcase their unique customs, traditional attire, and vibrant dances. Visitors get to immerse in the rich culture of Naga people, witness music performances, and be a part of craft exhibitions.This year’s festival is a global affair, as international participants from countries such as Japan, Wales, Peru, and Bulgaria will be part of the event. Nagaland Tourism Director Veyielo Doulo stressed about the growing appeal of the event, which attracted over 1.54 lakh visitors last year, and anticipates a larger turnout this year.

Cultural performances: Over two dozen cultural troupes will perform daily.Indigenous games: Traditional Naga sports and games will be part of the event
Local cuisine: Highlights include the fiery Naga King chili-eating competition and other food festivals.
Outdoor activities: Mountain biking, Dzukou Valley hikes, and a World War II rally add excitement.
Crafts and handlooms: Exhibitions showcase intricate Naga artistry.
Then there will be special events like the Night Carnival, International Hornbill Naga Wrestling, and traditional stone-pulling ceremonies taking place.
Revealing more about the festival, Nagaland’s Tourism Minister, Temjen Imna Along, described the festival as a celebration of tradition and a platform for cultural networking.

Held annually since December 1999 at Kisama Heritage Village, 12 km from Kohima, the Hornbill Festival has become one of India’s premier cultural events, a must-visit for anyone seeking to explore the cultural heartbeat of Nagaland.
