COVID-19 Update: Italy announces 5 days quarantine on EU arrivals

Given the sudden hike in Coronavirus numbers, Italy’s government has announced to impose a five-day quarantine on people arriving from European Union or EU countries, for both residents and foreigners.

Coronavirus restrictions in the country have tightened to help the country deal with the deadly third wave of infections. As of now, the whole country is put under a strict lockdown over the three-day Easter weekend starting on Saturday (April 2).
Under the new COVID-19 measure, anyone arriving from any other EU country will have to show a negative coronavirus test before departing for Italy and a second after five days of self quarantine. Exceptions will only be made for reasons of proven necessity and urgency.

Currently, quarantine rules are already there for those coming from non-EU countries, and for non-residents arriving from other nations, they have no entry at all.
Bernabo Bocca, head of the federation of Italian hoteliers, told a local news paper, "I can't leave my municipality, but I can fly off to the Canary Islands -- it's absurd."

Apparently, Italy was the first European nation to enforce strict lockdown and quarantine measures after being severely hit by the pandemic. The nation has recorded more than 108,000 COVID-19 deaths till now.
