Pink aquatic plant turns Kozhikode’s Avala Pandi village into a dreamland

A village in Kerala’s Kozhikode turned pink after pink aquatic plants shed their flowers on the pathway around the city.

As per reports, a village called Avala Pandi in Kozhikode has been getting a lot of attention on the social media for the pink aquatic plants enveloping the water bodies in the region. The plant bearing pink flowers belongs to the Cabomba furcata family, which is locally known as mullan payal.

Reportedly, these plants grow in the presence of sunlight, more so, after 11 AM, and they wilt away after sunset. Botanist, Dr Dileep told a leading news website that if people collect these plants, they should grow them inside a water tank or an aquarium. These plants with thorny bushes could harm the environment if they get into the water bodies or paddy fields located in the village.

This sudden stunning sight of flowers has taken tourists and locals aback. Travel enthusiasts have already started marking this village in Kozhikode as the next spot on their bucket list.
Avala Pandi village is known as the Paddy Bowl of northern Kerala. The entire village covers an area of 1500 acres.
Apparently, the pink flowers have also garnered interest of travel enthusiasts across the country.
