Australia recognises its indigenous population by changing its national anthem

Australia has made a small yet extremely significant change to its national anthem to recognise it indeginious people.
The announcement was made last week on New Year’s Eve by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. He said that their national anthem, Advance Australia Fair, has been tweaked a little to include Australia's Indigenous communities.
The very first line of the national anthem is, "Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free," has been tweaked to, "Australians all let us rejoice, for we are one and free."

With this very tiny change, the country gets to recognise its ancient past that includes indegenious people. The decision was supported by all the Australian leaders including state premiers and Prime Minister.
Peter Vickery, founder of Representation In Anthem, has been working with the government and Indigenous communities to find a solution. He said, "Frankly, I'm elated. It does achieve a major objective of our work, which was to convert words of hurt or exclusion to words of inclusion, and embrace a multicultural society of the 21st century."

However, Ian Hamm, chair of the Indigenous organisation First Nations Foundation, told local media that the change was "a good step, but after all, it's just one step, one thing"

He further said that the anthem in itself is a song and that there is a “whole bunch of other initiatives and changes and efforts to be done to create equity of opportunity for Aboriginal people, and equity in life outcomes for Aboriginal peoples."

Australia is home to around 500 indigenous tribes and all are different from one other. The community leaders have been working together since years to make people aware and give them equal rights.
