Miami is building an otherworldly underwater sculpture park in a bid to boost tourism in the region. The art pilgrimage, known as the ReefLine, is an underwater public park designed to serve as an artificial reef. As per reports, the park will open to the public in December 2021, though only the first mile will be completed of this seven miles long project by then. Read less
The mastermind behind this project is Ximena Caminos of BlueLab Preservation Society, who is also the Founder and Director. Talking about the project, she said, "I thought, 'What if we created a reef designed by artists? I've always been interested in how we can combine art and science to address issues of sustainability."
Caminos explained that besides artists, scientists, architects, preservationists and several Miami officials are coming together to help in the creation of this amazing underwater sculpture park.
In recent years, it has been noticed that South Florida's coral have been dying at an alarming rate. This problem is not local but global. Studies have found that the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, which is the world’s largest coral reef system, has already lost 50 per cent of its coral life in the last 30 years.
