An underwater sculpture park to open in Miami

Miami is building an otherworldly underwater sculpture park in a bid to boost tourism in the region. The art pilgrimage, known as the ReefLine, is an underwater public park designed to serve as an artificial reef. As per reports, the park will open to the public in December 2021, though only the first mile will be completed of this seven miles long project by then.

The mastermind behind this project is Ximena Caminos of BlueLab Preservation Society, who is also the Founder and Director. Talking about the project, she said, "I thought, 'What if we created a reef designed by artists? I've always been interested in how we can combine art and science to address issues of sustainability."
The park will be a perfect place for curious humans interested in reef organisms that are in danger of extinction. If the underwater world is not protected, the world's entire coral ecosystems will die. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the reef colonies help in biodiversity as most of the aquatic animals are dependent on them.

Caminos explained that besides artists, scientists, architects, preservationists and several Miami officials are coming together to help in the creation of this amazing underwater sculpture park.
With this, the team hopes to reduce the damage done to Florida's coastline by providing a new home to the new underwater organisms to flourish. As per reports, the structure will feature concrete, modular units, and art installations from South Beach to the north.

In recent years, it has been noticed that South Florida's coral have been dying at an alarming rate. This problem is not local but global. Studies have found that the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, which is the world’s largest coral reef system, has already lost 50 per cent of its coral life in the last 30 years.
