Air travel bubble between India and the Maldives from next week

South Asia’s first air travel bubble is all set to start between India and the Maldives. The India-Maldives flight operations are to start from next week, as announced by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during a virtual meeting with the Maldivian Foreign Minister. India-Maldives air travel bubble is the first since the pandemic halted all air travel operations in March this year.
Maldives has had a total of 6370 cases of coronavirus until now, which includes 24 cases of death. The government in Maldives had opened its borders on July 15 for tourists, and as of now there are no quarantine restrictions. According to reports from Maldives, tourists are being taken straight to their resorts from the airport, and are not having to enter Male. So, for all those wondering about taking a holiday, this could be it. Of course, the nation relies heavily on tourism and particularly on Indian tourists as India happens to be its second fastest growing tourist market.
The Indian High Commissioner to Maldives, Sanjay Sudhit told the Economic Times in a statement, “The air travel bubble will also help regularise the flow of Maldivians seeking medical treatment to India.”

The country’s resorts have already started to function, and guest houses that are popular among budget travellers are to start their operations soon.
