The United Kingdom has been under lockdown for a long time now. But on Monday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson showed a plan to lift lockdown slowly by deciding to let people meet outside in two weeks. As per the plans, on March 8, school will reopen and people will be allowed to meet one friend or family member outdoors. Restaurants and pubs and hairdressers will open on April 12 and starting May 17, Britons could go on an international holiday. Nightclubs are expected to be opened by June 21.
The PM said, "We're setting out on what I hope and believe is a one-way journey to freedom. And this journey is made possible by the pace of the vaccine program. At every stage, our decisions will be led by data, not dates."
The latest lockdown in Britain was imposed in January amid the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant. Since then, the variant has spread in many other countries. The move to lift the lockdown comes as the UK continues to roll out vaccines.
Till now, 17 million people in Britain have got the vaccine and the country has set a goal of vaccinating every adult by July.
