5 volcanoes with ongoing eruptions since May

As per the reports, as many as 46 volcanoes have been classified as continuing eruptions. Do note a ‘continuing eruption’ does not necessarily imply continuous daily activity, but indicates that there have been intermittent eruptions without a hiatus of three months or more. Typically, there are between 40 and 50 volcanoes with ongoing eruptions, with approximately 20 of these actively erupting on any given day.

Here’s a look at five volcanoes that began erupting in May 2024 and are still active.

Dempo Volcano, Indonesia

Dempo Volcano, situated on Sumatra Island in Indonesia, started erupting on May 27, 2024, and has continued its activity up to June 6, 2024.
