At the other end of the bridge, almost diagonally opposite from the Yeats’ statue is the Yeats’ Memorial Building, home to the Yeats’ Society. A pretty intense blue door is rather striking. The society organises a variety of events such as poetry readings and exhibitions throughout the year. Step in for and spend a fascinating hour going through some of the permanent exhibits. It also organises temporary exhibitions from time to time. To coincide with 150 years of Yeats, one particular exhibition was path breaking: a series of black and white panoramic images by landscape photographer Ciaran McHugh. The photographs were inspired by the landscape described in Yeats’ poetry and included such landmarks as Benbulben, Glencar falls and Rosses Point on the Atlantic coast.
