While a number of regions in the state of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand recorded sub-zero temperature, including Manali, Kufri, Uttarkashi and Auli. Kufri recorded 1 degree Celsius and there's also chances of rains as predicted by the weather department. Even the south of India is not far behind. The cold wave that has been sweeping across the country took a surprising turn when Munnar in Kerala touched a reading of -4 degrees; previously, Munnar recorded -1 degree on January 1 as well as some snow.
While places such as Auli, Dhanaulti, Kanatal, Chopta and Tungnath are under layers of snow, regions in the plains, including Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun also have people huddling for bonfires at night.
The current spate of snowfall and rain is expected to be a boon for the apple orchards in both Himachal as well as Uttarakhand, even as Munnar’s tea estates are expected to suffer in the extremely cold conditions that have hit Kerala.
