A fascinating outdoor art experience
Word to the wise: If you want to see more of Vigeland's work, head to the Vigeland Museum - it houses almost his entire output of sculptures, drawings and woodcuts.

Gustav Vigeland was one of Norway's most prolific sculptors and today is celebrated alongside Ibsen as a national artistic hero. When Vigeland moved to a new studio at the edge of Frogner park in 1924, he became focused on creating a vast public display of his work. In 1940, three years before Vigelands's death, the 80 acre sculpture park was finally opened to the public.

It now hosts over 200 bronze and granite sculptures, the highlight of which is 'The Monolith', a mass of 121 writhing figures carved from a single column of stone. 'The Wheel of Life', 'Angry Boy' and 'Sinnataggen' are also worth seeking out.
