The Venice flood situation is getting worse day by day, affecting tourism in the worst possible manner. The city hasn’t experienced something like this in the last 50 years! Acqua alta, meaning high water, is caused by high tides and generally lasts a couple of hours and things get back to normal in three to four hours.
It has created huge issues for the locals as the prime source of income for them is tourism. Currently, Venice residents need foreign footfall to make money and survive the losses. As per locals, if tourists decide not to come, it will definitely become a huge problem for those whose life depends upon tourism.
Many tourists on their social media accounts have described their horrific situations and also compared with the famous movie Titanic. Some of the prime tourist hotspots in the city such as Ca' Pesaro, St Mark's, the Gothic Palazzo Fortuny and the Doge's Palace are closed. Most of the eateries, restaurants and retail shops lined along Piazzale Roma and St Mark's Square will also remain shut as they are likely to get affected more.
Vaporetti or water buses can efficiently work in high tide situation but the floods have demolished some prime boarding platforms as well.
The reason for flooding is mostly global warming and the city Mayor says that this is the high time people understand the graveness of climate change or else it will claim several other gorgeous and historic destinations across the globe.
