If you want to experience some wildlife, head to Vasona Lion safari in Silvassa. The national park was initially built for the conservation of Asiatic Lion and Lioness; track their breeding and taking care of their cubs with appropriate medication and diet. It is spread across twenty acres, is 10 km away from Silvassa and is one of the major attractions for families and children. The lion safari park is enclosed in the 92 sq. km. of Dadra & Nagar Haveli Wildlife Sanctuary with a wall built around it. Visitors are driven around in jeeps with mesh on windows to admire the Asiatic lions.
Adjacent to the Vasona lion safari is the Satmalia deer park, home to many species of deer and antelope. Visit the deer park during morning when it is feeding time for the animals. There are many mud trails inside the park where you can see deer walking leisurely. Deer is a shy animal and it is advisable to keep a distance in order to not scare them away. There are many species like Sambhar, Chital, Nilgai and Black Buck along with birds like Peacock, Thrushes and Woodpecker.
The safari park is approximately 4 km away from Silvassa, 12 km away from Dadra and 16 km away from Khanvel. Apart from private cabs, many government buses run between the national park, Khanvel and Silvassa. Tourists can also take auto rickshaw to the national park and back. It is advisable to carry your own food from town as there are no food stalls inside the park. There is a limited number of tourists allowed inside the deer park per day. So reach early in order to avoid any disappointment of being denied entry.
