Hot springs in Ma'in

Located at a distance of about 18 kilometres from the Dead Sea and 264 m below sea level, are the very famous thermal springs of Hammamat Ma'in. This desert oasis is visited as much by the local population as by the tourists so be ready to see lots of people enjoying the communal bath. Sometimes it is difficult to even find space for oneself but the experience is totally worth it.
The water here is heated between 45 degree to a fierce 60 degree centigrade by the underground lava while it makes its way through the valley. This heated water slides down in a series of waterfalls (almost sixty of them, big and small !) and is collected in many different pools meant for public bathing. The water for these waterfalls actually comes from winter rains in the higher plains of Jordan. The rainwater then feeds all the hot and cold springs found in the valley. Taking a bath here is almost akin to a spiritual cleansing experience and one comes out absolutely rejuvenated from the bath.

The sound of these gushing springs reverberates all through the hills above the Dead Sea. The sound of bubbling water is the sound most heard here. While driving around in the area, it’s not unusual to come across stray green patches of vegetation and on deeper probing discover steam and a spring of hot water close by.
Like everything else in Jordan the entry ticket is expensive at 15JD. Thousands of people visit these springs each year and enjoy the experience of bathing under the mineral laden water flowing from these thermal waterfalls. It is a trip that has to be made if you are in Jordan, so make sure you go to visit these hot springs.
