Shopping in Coimbatore is quite an amazing experience, thanks to the plethora of options available. Shopaholics will rejoice to know that Coimbatore is called the Manchester of the South, as it has a thriving textile industry, and fabrics are aplenty. Make sure you shop at the main markets at Oppanakara Street, Raja Street, Ranga Gounder Street, and Sukrawar Pettai, especially known for its handloom saris. The government owned Poompuhar Handicrafts Emporium is a great pace to pick up local handicrafts and Co-optex, Khadikrafts. Tansi Sales Center will give you several handloom and fabric options to choose from. The pocket friendly prices of the items here make this is a shopper’s haven. Check out the Sri Lakshmi Shopping Complex which offers several choices in dresses, ready-made clothes, saris, silver, etc. Avinashi Road and Big Bazaar Street are two other places that retail almost everything you may need. Cross-Cut Road located at the centre of the city is the main shopping hub in the city, and is usually chock-a-block with retail outlets. If you have a thing for brands, then D. B. Road retails all major global brands. Coimbatore is also known for its fresh food items, and R.S. Puram is where you need to head to pick some of the freshest and best quality foods. Likewise, Trichy Road is the place to stop by if you have a sweet tooth.
