If you have had your share of museum hopping and walking the English literature trail, you can opt for a cruise around the beautiful Derwentwater, Queen of the English Lakes. The cruises are offered by the Keswick Launch Company located on the lake shore of Derwentwater near the Lakeland market town of Keswick. Starting at the Keswick boat landing, the 50-minute cruise along the tranquil waters with stunning landscapes all over is bound to leave you ensnared. The journey also offers stopping off at any of the seven lakeshore jetties from where you can join local walks such as the one-to two-hour walk from Keswick Landings to Ashness. While on the lake there are options for you to captain your own boat by hiring one and also indulge in canoeing and sailing. If you are in a mood for adventure you can opt to fish or even swim. Remember to follow the guidelines and contact the Keswick Information Centre for the rules and regulations. Derwent Island is one of the hidden gems of Lake District. The 18th Century house on this tiny island is open to visitors only 5 days in a year. Make sure you check the National trust website (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/) for the exact days and related information in case you plan to visit.
