It is here where bird lovers unite and kids will go absolutely crazy for the amount of wildlife that lives here at the Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre. There are so many ways to experience this marsh year round with a variety of activities offered daily including season guided walks, paddles in large canoes through the marsh, nature surveys and more. The property itself features patches of tall-grass prairie (some of the last remaining tall-grass prairie in the province); waterfowl lure crops and over thirty kilometres of trails. Species you can expect to see here include over 25 different kinds of mammals, an abundance of reptiles and fish as well as over 300 species of birds. Migration season is a spectacular time to visit the marsh as sometimes over 100,000 waterfowl can be seen daily throughout the marsh. The Oak Hammock Café is also located here and offers breakfast and lunch with plenty of options for kids such as grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dogs. Walk the trails and make sure you don’t forget to visit the centre where live animals are on display as well as an array of ever changing exhibits in the feature hall.
