2.5 km shopping street in Osaka, Tenjinbashi Suji is supposedly the longest of its kind in the whole of Japan. With a massive Kimono-clad doll welcoming you into this mad maze of shops selling everything from clothes and souvenirs, to cosmetics and snacks, you know that a great time is in store for you. Similar to the Nishiki Market in Kyoto, this arcade is perfect for buying fresh produce along with local snacks and condiments. You can even buy kitchenware and home furnishings along with trendy fashion accessories at decent prices. If in case you get famished, there are a staggering number of traditional eateries dotting Tenjinbashi Suji, and they sell everything from specialities like Takoyaki (diced octopus that is fried) to Okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes), and you must absolutely lay your hands on these.
While it would take hours for a normal person to cover the length of the entire arcade, it really is worth all the effort. Since the weekends see an intimidating swarm of tourists and locals, shopping during the weekdays is highly recommended. Tenjinbashi Suji is a few metres away from the Tenmangu Shrine, and most of its shops are open from 10 am until 8 pm. This long street begins at the Tenjimbashi-suji Rokuchome Station along the subway lines of Sakaisuji and Tanimachi, and it ends at the Hideyoshi Toyotomi built Tenjinbashi Bridge.
