Take a walk through the ruins of the Maratha Empire and the historic tales of Peshwa rulers at Shanivar Wada, located on Bajorao Road in Pune. Bordered by five humongous entrance gates (Dilli Darwaja, Mastani Darwaja, Khidki Darwaja, Ganesh Darwaja and Jambhul Darwaja or Narayan Darwaja) and massive walls, the sprawling fort-palace was built in the 18th century and was considered to be an important centre for Indian politics. Take a walk through the ruins of the Maratha Empire and the historic tales of Peshwa rulers at Shanivar Wada, located on Bajorao Road in Pune. Bordered by five humongous entrance gates (Dilli Darwaja, Mastani Darwaja, Khidki Darwaja, Ganesh Darwaja and Jambhul Darwaja or Narayan Darwaja) and massive walls, the sprawling fort-palace was built in the 18th century and was considered to be an important centre for Indian politics. Destroyed by a fierce fire in 1828, Shanivar Wada is now a landmark tourist attraction that comprises of huge courtyards, a lotus-shaped fountain and lush gardens. The sound and light show held every evening (conducted in English and Marathi) is also one of the major crowd-pullers.
