Though the dam is in Kotagiri, the access from Coonoor is better. A small walk through a copse leads you to the tranquil waters of the Ralliah Dam, which is the chief source of water for the entire town. The dam was built back in 1941, and is an excellent spot to head to when you’re looking for some isolation. If you walk along the bank, you’ll reach a small tribe settlement, and the guard manning the dam will happily volunteer his services as a guide (you can pay him a token amount as a tip) to those who need some assistance.
