Porta Portese Flea Market

It is one of the biggest and most popular flea markets in Rome, and you best be up early on Sundays to head here to shop until you drop. Hours of operation are from 6:30 am until 2:30 pm only on Sundays. It is located at the back of the Trastevere quarter, and let us be the first to tell you that haggling is encouraged. There are over 1000 different stalls to browse from, and shoppers will find everything from oil lamps to clothing to comic books to bootleg DVDs. If you wanted that knock off bag for a fair price, this is where you will find it. The atmosphere here is electric, almost carnival like, with street performers and stalls set up selling roasted corn and other snacks to munch on. We do have to warn you that pick pocketing is often a problem here so do hang on to your wallets and purses, and be aware of your surroundings. If you are an antique hunter, market junkie or simply looking for a bargain, this is the place to be.
