Periyar Interpretation Centre is a natural history museum that gives in-depth knowledge about the flora and fauna in the forest area by utilizing computer screens, three-dimensional models and a lot of charts. This museum is a hidden treasure trove of the town and is located inside Periyar Tiger Reserve. The entrance of the museum is very rustic with the first gallery being an artificial forest. In one of the halls, animal fossils are being displayed with all the relevant information about them. There is also a gallery dedicated to birds to share information about their appearance, origin, sounds and behaviour. One can make use of digital screens in this gallery to get more insights. Another exhibit profoundly describes the various geological formations with the help of charts and diagrams. Please note that photography is banned inside the museum and hence, be ready with your notebook and pen to capture your learning. If you visit this museum, please make sure that you share information within your network too because in spite of being a knowledge bank, it experiences very less footfall.
