The Camera Museum

Yes, Penang seems to love photography to host two camera museums! In the core zone of George Town World Heritage Site, this Camera Museum offers an elaborate walk-through via its two-storeys. Its entrance lobby is characterized by a dramatic camera artefact that makes for an excellent prop to click pictures with. A spiral staircase takes visitors to the main display area with a series of small rooms. The first room holds a wide collection of cameras, nicely stacked behind glass doors. A second one, titled Obscure Room, is dedicated to explain image-forming principles. Yet another room is a replica of a dark room used to develop photographic films. The last room is unique: it is a pinhole camera itself! So when you enter this one, you are inside a giant camera!
The Camera Museum also hosts an in-house cafeteria, aptly titled ‘Exposure’. Pamper that sweet tooth, try the savory or pick up a drink. The facility is complete with a souvenir shop and, on the way out, be prepared to loosen that wallet a bit more to carry home a few memories!

Tips: This museum claims to conduct guided tours every two hours, starting 10 AM to until 6 PM and the staff can be quite relaxed at other times. So, if you plan to visit this collection, make sure to catch one of those 30-min guided tours.
