Jakhol village, which lies around 7 km from Sawadi in Uttarkashi District, might soon turn into a tourist attraction. The government is planning to develop this area as a model tourist village.State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj recently visited Sawadi village, which was ravaged by devastating fire some time ago, and distributed household items to villagers. During this visit, the minister added that Jakhol village, which is within a short distance from Sawadi, will be developed into a model tourist village.
The district of Uttarkashi was formed in 1960. The rugged terrain of this region is surrounded by Himachal Pradesh and Chamoli District. Within easy walking distances, one can find numerous dharamshalas and ashrams. Add to it the beauty of nature, this region has all the ingredients to make a mark on the tourism block.

In response to a query regarding rural tourism raised by a villager, the minister mentioned, “The villagers of Mori block have preserved their culture and tradition which has made the village a tourist attraction. Therefore, the government has decided to develop Jakhol and nearby villages under tribal tourism scheme. The government will also add Devkyara Meadow in the tourism map and develop Sartal Lake which will also attract tourists and boost the economy of villagers.”
