Puducherry gets a new tourist attraction and it’s called Velrampet

Velrampet is the latest addition to the list of prime tourist spots in Puducherry. Recently, Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi launched the boating facility there at the lake. Officials from various departments, students and locals too took the ride in the lake.

After taking up the post of Lt. Governor, Ms. Bedi undertook challenging responsibility of cleaning up the lake. She said “the revival and transformation of the lake was a model of good governance and symbol of the strength of collective working. It is a dream come true and will benefit the people of the area.”
She also mentioned that soon Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation will add four and two seater paddle boats along with a kayak and life guards and boatmen in the lake to attract more and more tourists.

Moreover, the municipality has been asked to take care of public toilets there and have been directed to add more benches to sit, while Electricity Department will take care of street lights in the region so that people can go on evening walks. Not only this, the college close to the lake has also been asked to send students for nature activity.

Fishing activities will also begin soon and an organisation has been given the task of providing hook and line to tourists who wish to do leisure fishing.

Ms. Bedi herself was involved in beach restoration work. Later she took a trip to Vedashram Gurukulam near Karuvadikuppam. After her inspection, she sent a message saying that restoration work of the beach that is being done by the National Institute of Ocean Technology will be tentatively get over by next year in 2019.
