A unique area in the south of Hockley area of the city centre, Jewellery Quarter is a hub for jewellers. With a population of around 6000, this part of the city has the largest concentration of businesses centred around gems and jewellery. While it still accounts for about 40% of all jewellery made in the UK, this area employed about 30,000 people during the peak of the industrial revolution. Recognising the historical importance and significance of this place, a large number of heritage buildings have been restored here and are a popular tourist attraction. Housing the last standing Georgian Square in the serene surroundings of St Paul’s, this area is not to be missed while in the city.
