Market Hall

Gdansk’s Market Hall is situated right behind Targ Weglowy (Coal Square), which is not too far from Dluga Street. Built in the late 19th century, it is a red-tiled building with arched doors and windows, and turrets. Recently renovated, it has a beautiful facade, new shops and a lovely atmosphere. There are stalls, both outside, on the streets surrounding it, as well as inside, spread across three stories. It is a pleasure to wander around the rows of shops selling fresh vegetables, fruits, groceries, bread and cheese, meat, olive oil, pastes and preserves, and even strange things like the centre of dried sunflower. In between are stalls selling amber jewellery and souvenirs. Though tourists do find their way here, this is the main market where locals shop and is a nice place to get a local experience.
