As you stroll through the meandering Mall Road you will spot a line of everything you can think of: from shops, emporia and book stores to restaurants, cafes and tea stalls. Open from morning to evening, the stretch is a beehive of activity at all times of the day, and frequented both by locals and travellers. Look around and you’ll find much more just touristy souvenirs; the market is especially well-known for a vast variety of woollens including shawls, jackets, boots, caps and scarves. Other popular picks include Tibetan masks, jewellery, carpets and local accessories. Make sure you bargain hard before settling for the final price.
