The mods and rockers used to use this route along the A23, then M23 from sooty old London down to the happening beachside Brighton. It was mods on scooters and mopeds and rockers on motorbikesāall of them riding with girls, moving away for the weekend to have a good time and maybe a bit of a punch up. Haven't you seen Quadrophenia? If not, you should see it before you set off. This may be a fairly straightforward route, though the fields along quite bog standard roadsāit doesn't have to be, there are some pretty B roadsābut any journey out of the work-a-day city towards to the coast screams out freedom and 'road trip!' This is the holiday you can have in an afternoonāmany families do and have done since the motorcar was invented. For something really impressive, time your trip to coincide with a classic car rallyāthis route is a favourite for classic car enthusiasts as well as mods, rockers as well as shovel and pail families and boys who like boys.
