Union Budget 2018 – Arun Jaitley promises air travel for the common man

The Union Budget 2018 saw the government make some promising moves in the travel sector. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley even said in a statement, “People wearing Hawai Chappal will also be able to use Hawai Jahaj.” The minister stated that 56 unserved airports and 31 unserved helipads would be now covered for civilian use.
The Airports Authority of India currently has 124 airports, and the Finance Minister said that this number would be expanded by five times. The government in fact aims to achieve 1 billion trips in a year.

"We now plan to expand capacity of airports by five times to cater to one billion trips a year," said Jaitley, as he talked about the expansion of Udan. The Udan scheme is an air-connectivity initiative by the government of India. The idea is to enable everyone to fly, including the common citizens of the nation. The scheme was launched in April, 2017.

He further said, “We are the seventh largest economy in the world. India will grow at 7 percent next year. This year’s budget will focus on farmer issues. Indian economy has performed very well since our government took over in May 2014.”

The Union Budget 2018 also saw the inclusion of National Health Scheme, which will cover crores of Indian families.
