This year round zoo is best known for its award winning Journey to Churchill, an exhibit that features polar bears as well as arctic foxes, wolves and other interesting northern species. But this zoo isn’t just about this amazing exhibit, it also happens to be home to over 200 species of animals and is spread over 80 acres. Families can visit this zoo all year round and is located just minutes away from the downtown core. The Polar Playground is a huge hit amongst the kids and features things, such as a moving ice floor that responds to the little one’s footsteps, an Aurora Borealis wall where children get to create the Northern Lights and a huge ice cave. Other animals at the zoo include monkeys, tigers, reindeer, seals, sloths, eagles, snakes, frogs and more. The real draw though is the nine polar bears, which reside in the Journey to Churchill exhibit, an exhibit that is filled with rugged landscape, pools and dens to replicate their natural living environment. Another way to view these incredible animals is through the viewing windows at the 150 seat restaurant, which offers a variety of meals including an array of kid’s meals. This zoo, voted one of the best in Canada is certainly worth a visit when you are in Winnipeg.
