Among Bangkok’s most interesting museums is the remarkable Jim Thompson House. Famous for resurrecting the Thai silk industry decades ago, American Jim Thompson is still revered for his beautiful fabrics. While the museum has a small shop, where people can purchase Jim Thompson brand goods, a much better place to shop for his fabrics is the Jim Thompson Factory. This massive warehouse stands five stories high, stocked with fabrics like cotton silk and a wide selection of home decor items. You can find everything from silk scarves and pillows to colourful clothing, curtains and wall hangings here.
Visitors will appreciate the small restaurant on the top floor featuring traditional Thai dishes—the perfect place to re-fuel and hydrate in the middle of a big shopping day. Exploring all five floors of this place is quite a task! Even though it’s technically an outlet store, the products sold here are extremely high in quality (with correspondingly hefty price tags). Particularly for textile fanatics or sewers, a trip to the Jim Thompson Factory is a great way to spend an afternoon in bustling Bangkok.
