If you are in the mood to splurge while travelling around Kyoto, Daimaru is a great place for some high-end shopping. A plush department store dotted with the best known international brands, this address is not for those who intend to take home a whole bunch of cheap souvenirs. It is fairly easy to find brands such as, Armani, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Apart from the usual clothing, furniture and accessories stores, the sixth floor of this complex has an opulent art gallery lined with some interesting works along with purchasable stationery and keepsakes. Located in downtown Kyoto, this outlet also has a dedicated food hall that plays host to some great dining options along with counters selling authentic Japanese edibles. What started as an 18th century dry goods shop founded by Shimomura Hikoemon Masahiro, Daimaru is now an extremely popular chain in Japan, and is located in major cities around the country.

Whether you have a lot of disposable money on you, or you would merely want to indulge in some window shopping, this store has a little bit of everything for everyone. A shining gem of the popular Shijo Street, Daimaru is open from 10 in the morning till 8 in the evening, and is only a few metres away from Shijo Station on the Karasuma Subway Line.
