Gutta på Haugen - meaning "the guys on the hill" - is considered by many to be Oslo's best delicatessen, and loved for its personal and dedicated service. As you approach the store, crates heave with the weight of ripe fruits and organic vegetables, and an explosion of colour from the flowers on sale draws you inside. Ham legs and cured meats hang, like party decorations, above a sprawling counter crammed with cheeses, charcuterie and Norwegian specialities.

The shelves are lined with imported and speciality goods, cooking oils, and preserves. Gutta på Haugen's welcoming staff are always happy to help - if you want to try that cheese or wonder what that strangely-shaped fruit is, just ask.
