Goa State Museum also known by the name State Archaeology Museum is where the state of Goa preserves its archaeological and historical heritage and shows it off too. Antiquities, art objects and objects of cultural importance make it to the hall of fame here at the Goa State Museum, as it is popularly known. At present the museum sports over two dozen galleries. These are the galleries for lottery machines, sculpture, Christian art, printing history, religious expression, cultural anthropology, contemporary art, numismatics (coins), Goa's freedom struggle, furniture, natural heritage and for environment and development. As you can see, there's a collection from pretty much every walk of life. Whether you are interested in furniture, printing, coins or lottery, learn about its history and heritage here. The museum makes for a cool learning centre. This is a must do site to understand Goa, its culture and rich history. Given that Goa's independence from Portugal is staggered by a few years from that of India, a walk here could be evocative. So if you are travelling with curious kids, put this on your itinerary. Established in 1977, the museum is now located southeast of Fontainhas in Panaji's Pato area (EDC complex) and is open from Monday to Saturday between 09:30 am and 05:30 pm. Depending on your interest, you could do this site from anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours.
