A walk-through into Goa’s past, the Goa Chitra—an ethnographic museum—has over 4000 objects ranging from farming tools to kitchen utensils to altarpieces on display. Providing interesting glimpses of agrarian technology and Goan lifestyle, the museum is run by its founder—the artist-curator-restorer Victor-Hugo Gomes. In addition to the plethora of artefacts, the museum also showcases centuries-old music instruments, local pottery vessels, ancient carts and palanquins, and the food staples of western coast of India (vegetables, herbs, spices, sugarcane, and rice). Designated as ‘topmost contemporary museum’ in India by the Archaeological Survey of India, Goa Chitra is located in the Benaulim village, a short drive away from Margao.
