Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is hosting exhibition till Jan 31 to mark her 100th birth anniversary

You may hate her but can’t ignore her. She is Indira Gandhi—the late former prime minister of India—who dared to take the uncharted route even at the cost of her life.
In her not-so-long but eventful lifespan, Indira Gandhi dabbled with a lot of things. However, if you wish to know more about her beyond the pages of history books, her official house in New Delhi is worth visiting at least once.

The house of the former Indian lady PM has now been turned into Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum which is open to public visitors. The house-turned-museum has on display memorabilia, personal objects, exhibits, old news pieces and other artefacts from the time when Indira Gandhi lived in the house. The tour of the museum begins with showing the early years and family life of Mrs. Gandhi and, after which, it showcases the highlights of her term as the PM of India.


However, in her career, she had to take an odd decision – Operation Blue Star! On her command, the Indian military attacked the Golden Temple in Amritsar to vanquish the militant religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his armed men. This event led to a lot of bloodsheds which eventually angered the Sikh community throughout the world. Despite obvious death threats, Indira Gandhi allowed being served by her Sikh bodyguards, eventually, lost her life at their hands.

To mark the completion of the 100th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, an exhibition has been organised till 31st of January, 2018 in the museum. Visit to behold a whopping 320 photos telling inspiring stories about the late lady PM.
