Irrespective of whether you are fond of horse racing or not, it’s fun to spend an afternoon at the races, especially if the course goes back to the times of the Maharaja. Located almost at the foot of Chamundi Hill, the course has a picture postcard setting. Horse racing in Mysore goes back to 1891 and the enclosure for members still stands on formality and propriety. Some of the stands and the buildings go back many decades and bear the stamp of royalty. In between watching the horses thundering around the track, it is a good idea to take a walk and get a feel of the place. For a closer look at the horses and jockeys, head to the paddocks. If you are the betting kind, there’s plenty of opportunity here. And if you feel thirsty or peckish, head to the refreshment area for some biryanis, dosas and coffee.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
