The Hobbiton movie set portraying the peaceful Shire is set in Matamata near Hamilton and Auckland, and is a marvel to behold. Further south, the Tongariro Crossing will transport you to Mordor, retracing Frodo’s steps. The capital city of Wellington is where production crews brought the films to life, while nearby regions doubled as Rivendell, Hobbiton Woods and the Gardens of Isengard.
