The Indian Railways have received an appeal from the devotees of Baba Ramdev Pir of Jaisalmer to start a train service between Ludhiana and Pokhran in Rajasthan through Fazilka, which would make it easier for the people to visit the popular shrine.
The holy shrine is located en route Jaisalmer from Jodhpur, close to the famous Pokhran village in Ramdevra.
King Ajmal (Ajaishinh) and Queen Minaldevi were a childless couple. One day, the king was moved by his misery and went to Dwarka in Gujarat to pray to his favourite deity, Lord Krishna. Legend has it that when the king failed to receive a favourable response, torn by his mental anguish, he jumped into the sea nearby to access the ancient city of Dwarka, the sunken city that was an erstwhile kingdom of Krishna.
Miraculously, the king’s prayers were answered, and soon after, he became a father to two brilliant boys. It is believed that the younger child, Ramdev, was a messiah born to salvage the downtrodden and serve the society. He had several devotees and disciples.
Ramdev took samadhi in 1442 at the age of 37 years. Even today, lots of faithful devotees visit his resting place to seek relief from their problems.
The temple compound is surrounded by a very big market.
