Spending a morning with elephants, not just riding them but taking them through their morning routine, might seem a bit farfetched but at Dubare Elephant Camp, the endeavour is just that. Located about 110 km West of Mysore in Coorg district on the banks of the river Cauvery, Jungle Lodges and Resorts has set up a resort here but visitors can just go for a day visit too. A little boat ferries visitors to the other bank where the elephant camp is located. Early in the morning the elephants are herded to the water and washed thoroughly. If it is fun to participate in this as they are sometimes playful and splash water everywhere. They are then fed with large balls of ragi mixed with other grains and nutritious items. Finally, visitors can get to ride on them through the forest. The feeding and elephants rides are repeated late in the afternoon.
