A great summer tradition
Word to the wise: It's technically illegal to consume alcohol in Oslo's parks, but the rule is rarely heeded or enforced.

You know it's summer in Oslo when the smell of barbecues fills the air. On warm weekends, the city's beautiful parks are crammed with groups of friends grilling meat, drinking beer and sunbathing.
If you fancy joining in you can pick up a small, disposable barbecue for around NOK 30 from most grocery stores in the city. The most popular spot for barbecues is St Hanshaugen, but it can get uncomfortably busy so consider one of the city's other parks such as Stensparken in the Bislett district. The only park where barbecuing is entirely prohibited is Slottsparken, next to the Royal Palace.
