About 22 km from Srinagar lies this picturesque Dachigam National Park, which is every wildlife and nature lover’s dream destination! Dachigam meaning ten villages is called so because to create this national park, ten villages were brought. This park is basically segregated in two sections, namely Upper Dachigam and Lower Dachigam. This park is basically segregated in two sections, namely Upper Dachigam and Lower Dachigam. The one easily accessible to travellers is Lower Dachigam as to reach Upper Dachigam, one will have to trek for an entire day.
In addition, the place is also popular for spotting animals such as hill fox, Himalayan weasel, jackal and Himalyan boars. Do carry a pair of good binoculars and DSLR, because it’s not everyday that you get to spot such wildlife at such a stunning place.
The nearest airport serving the park is located at Srinagar, which is nearly 22 km away while the closest railhead is at Jammu, nearly 300 km from park.
Best season to visit the park
Those interested in visiting the park must do so between April and October. Though park remains open throughout the year, this is the April to October is the time when one can experience the gorgeous autumn colours of Kashmir. It’s simply stunning!
