Word to the wise: When picking up your smartcard you'll have to sign an agreement - if you don't return the card within 24 hours, you'll be charged NOK 500.

With 100 bike stations across the city, the Oslo Bysykkel system is an enjoyable and efficient way to get around. Oslo is generally very cycle-friendly, and small enough that most sights can be reached easily by bike, often more quickly than by public transport.
The bikes are available from 6am to 12midnight daily, and the electronic smartcards needed to unlock them can be rented from tourist information offices for NOK 80. You can only use the same bike for up to three hours before returning it to a station, but you can pick up another one immediately.
