Capodimonte Museum

One of the most important Italian museums, Capodimonte Museum is situated in the Capodimonte Royal Palace. The museum houses several prominent artworks from different Italian schools of paintings, including Neapolitan paintings and ancient Roman sculptures. The first and second floors of the museum house the National Gallery. The royal apartments in the palace have antique 18th-century furniture and porcelain and a majolica collection from the various royal residences. The museum also houses the Andy Warhol's iconic “Vesuvius”, an acrylic painting on canvas. The Farnese collection has two categories: the Parmesan collection and the Roman collection.
The palace is located in the Bosco di Capodimonte ('Hilltop Wood'), which serves as a preserve for royal hunting. Tourists say that although this place is hard to find as it is atop a hill, the museum is worth the visit. To reach the museum, it might be safer and quicker to take a cab instead of bus. The road to the palace is winding and steep. To visit the museum, you must make a reservation at least a day before. It is open every weekday except Wednesday from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm. Entry costs €7.50 per adult, which is reduced to €6.50 after 2 pm.
