Chain Bridge

Built over the River Danube in 1859, Chain Bridge was the first suspension bridge which permanently connected Buda and Pest sides of the city. Designed by an English engineer and constructed by a Scottish engineer, this iconic bridge is a national symbol of Hungary. It was considered one of the largest suspension bridges in the world and an engineering wonder of its kind. Take a stroll on the bridge around sunset time and soak in the beauty of this divided capital. You can either walk towards the Buda side leading to Adam Clark Square or towards the Pest side which ends at Széchenyi István Square. The bridge is lit up in the night and is a visual delight for wanderers. The bridge has been featured in some of the blockbusters including the climax scene of Bollywood movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. There are small cafes close to the bridge on Pest side from where you can marvel the beauty of Buda Castle in the horizon over Hungarian beers!
